Vegan Fall Harvest Apple Tart

Originating in ancient monasteries of the 1300s, 'Tarte aux pommes' is a timeless classic.

This vegan reimagining captures the essence of autumn, making it the ideal dessert to enjoy during apple-picking season!

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup vegan butter, softened

  • 1/4 cup cold water

For the Filling:

  • 6-8 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves  

  • 1/4 cup vegan butter, melted


Instructions:

Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

  2. Cut in vegan butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Gradually add cold water, mixing until dough comes together.

  4. Divide dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Filling:

  1. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Toss to coat.

Assemble and Bake:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Roll out one disc of dough on a lightly floured surface and place in a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom.

  3. Pour the apple filling into the crust.

  4. Roll out the second disc of dough and cut into strips.

  5. Arrange the strips of dough over the apple filling in a lattice pattern.

  6. Brush the crust with melted vegan butter.

  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  8. Let cool completely before serving.

Optional : Dust with powdered sugar for a festive touch!
